Botox: Fountain of Youth or Poison in Your Face?

Posted under reducing wrinkles by admin on Tuesday 9 March 2010

What Is Botox?

Derived from the botulinum toxin type A, Botox is a brand name for a highly purified and diluted preparation of botulinum used in numerous medical and cosmetic applications. It is also sold under the names Dysport and Myobloc. Botox is most widely known for its use in removing wrinkles.

While the botulinum toxic itself is highly poisonous and even deadly, the same toxin in smaller doses can be used to safely treat a variety of conditions. Botox is most widely known for its use in removing wrinkles, but is also has numerous medical applications.

Botox was first used in medicine to treat strabismus, a condition in which a person’s eyes do not align normally, and blepahrospasm, or uncontrolled blinking. Today, Botox is the most commonly performed cosmetic operation in America, with over four and a half million people getting the treatment in 2007.

Does Botox Work?

Botox does work to lessen the appearance of wrinkles, but this effect is temporary and has a host of risks attached, including paralysis of the wrong muscles and changes in facial expressions. So is Botox a fountain of youth or just poison injected into your face? Like so many things in life, the answer isn’t black and white, and while this answer many not satisfy some readers, both are true to a certain extent.

What Is Botox Used For?

Cosmetically, Botox is only FDA approved for use in smoothing out wrinkles in the forehead between the eyebrows, reducing crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines. Additionally, Botox is used to treat various medical conditions, including:

  • Achalasia – an esophageal disorder characterized by difficulty swallowing
  • Blepharospasm – involuntary blinking
  • Cervical Dystonia – a neurological disorder that causes the muscles around the neck and shoulder to contract uncontrollably
  • Hyperhidrosis – abnormal underarm sweating
  • Strabismus – crossed eyes

Studies of the use of Botox in treating other ailments such as migraines and prostate problems are ongoing.

How Does Botox Work?

The everyday facial expressions we all make, from happy to sad and everywhere in between, cause our skin to lose resilience. Cosmetic Botox injections work by blocking signals that are constantly firing from your nerves to your muscles. This causes a controlled weakening of the specific muscle targeted, and when the muscle doesn’t contract, wrinkles don’t show up as much. Noticeable improvements are usually seen within the first month after treatment.

How Is the Treatment Administered?

Botox is delivered to the muscle via a fine needle and causes little discomfort. The procedure only takes about ten minutes and requires no anesthesia. If you’re uncomfortable with needles, an icepack or anesthetic cream will do the trick.

Do I Need to Do Anything to Prepare for Botox?

Botox treatment methods vary from clinic to clinic. Some doctors recommend avoiding alcohol for one week prior to treatment and avoiding aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications for two weeks prior. This helps reduce the risk of bruising after injections.

Can Botox Be Used on Other Wrinkles?

No. Botox is only approved by the FDA for use between the eyebrows.

Will Botox affect my ability to make expressions?

You will still be able to make all the facial expressions you always could after Botox injections, just without the wrinkles between your brows showing. Only the muscle that has been injected with Botox is paralyzed. Problems making facial expressions arise when the wrong muscles are paralyzed, and this typically occurs when Botox is administered by someone who’s unqualified. The FDA strongly advises against attending Botox parties for this reason.

When Will I See the Effects of Botox?

Noticeable reduction of wrinkles will be seen within 2-3 days, and the full effects of Botox takes up to week to show.

How Long Does Botox Last?

The effects of a Botox injection last for approximately 4 – 6 months, and the wrinkles will return as the muscle starts to function normally again. Over time, the wrinkles will look smoother even without Botox, as the muscles are being conditioned to relax.

What Are the Side Effects of Botox?

The most common side effect of Botox is mild short-term bruising, which is caused by the mode of treatment rather than by the drug. When Botox is administered by a qualified medical professional side effects are quite rare but may include:

  • Allergic Reaction
  • Botulism – this illness is characterized by widespread paralysis and is rare when Botox is used correctly
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Headache
  • Paralysis of incorrect muscles
  • Sagging eyelids
  • Stomachache

How Much Does Botox Cost?

Depending on various factors such as the experience of the doctor performing the treatment and location of the clinic, Botox typically costs from $200 to $800 per treatment.

Will My Health Insurance Pay for Botox?

Most insurers will not cover Botox for cosmetic use.

Am I A Good Candidate For Botox?

Because the procedure, which requires a short series of injections over the span of a few minutes, is a fairly simple one, most people find they are good candidates for Botox. Botox is FDA approved for use on people between the ages of 18 and 65.

  • Do not use Botox if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use Botox if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
  • If you have a neurological or muscular disorder, tell your doctor during your consultation session.
  • If you have any allergies, tell your doctor during your consultation session.

If you have any concerns about taking Botox treatments, be sure to bring them up to your doctor. Being informed about the process is the best way to feel comfortable about your decision. In addition, you may want to ask your doctor for references and look at some of his or her before-and-after pictures to get an idea of what to expect.

what’s a good OTC product that gets rid of wrinkles under the eyes?

Posted under reducing wrinkles by admin on Thursday 4 March 2010

I was wondering what’s both an affordable and effective product that helps reduce wrinkles under the eyes.

Green grapes juice …. it is full of antioxidant benefit… such as Vitamin A (retinol), B & C …. all you have to do is cut or break a piece of grape in half and just rub it in your face, or eye area, leave for at least 15 minutes and then wash off.

Pineapple, Papaya or Peach juice – rub in your eye area. It contains AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) good for diminishing wrinkles.

Rubbing natural rose water is good…….. toooooo..

Or if your looking for a product…. then buy an eye cream that contains SPF 15, CoQ10 (coenzyme Q10) ……

Your mainly should look for an eye cream that has retinol..

Anti Aging Wrinkle Reducing Cream

Posted under reducing wrinkles by admin on Wednesday 3 March 2010

It can sound a little harsh because there are hundreds of skin care and anti aging creams that contain chemicals as part of their formula, however most creams that contain chemicals are dangerous for your skin and you should avoid them.

Let me give you a simple example, alcohol is used in many wrinkle filler creams that claim to be very effective, if fact they do cover up the wrinkles for a while, but what they don\’t tell you is that alcohol drys up the skin and dry skin causes wrinkles.

So the first thing is to avoid creams with alcohols, there are other creams that contain cheap chemicals to help reduce wrinkles and they can reduce wrinkles while you keep using the cream, but after 6 months if you stop to use those creams you skin will return to its previous condition and will get more wrinkled.

A few synthetic ingredients that you should avoid are:

Parabens

Alcohol

Petrolatum

Fragrances

others

Anti Aging Wrinkle Reducing Cream Ingredients

So a good and effective anti wrinkle reducing cream should be made of organic and natural ingredients that are safe to use by any type of skin.

Some of the best natural ingredients are

Vitamins A, B, D, E, they have strong anti oxidants and prevent free radical damage.

CynergyTK, is a natural ingredient that contains Functional Keratin, which is very similar to the fibers of the skin, this ingredient is a good anti oxidant, repairs the skin and stimulates collagen and elastin production.

Wakame, is another natural ingredient that has been proven in clinical trials to inhibit the enzyme that prevents acid production. Therefore the hyaluronic acid increases and your skin becomes more firm.

Coenzyme Q10 is one of the most powerful anti oxidants and have many other added benefits, prevents diseases and has proven to protect the skin from toxins and free radicals.

There are many other natural ingredients that help to repair the skin from the damage causes by toxins and the loss of elasticity. Read the labels of the creams that you want to buy and avoid any dangerous substance that will hurt your skin more than help.

Every Man Over 55 Has Face Wrinkles – Do You Have Deep One’s Yet?

Posted under reducing wrinkles by admin on Sunday 28 February 2010

Some men have small face wrinkles that are getting bigger by the day. And some people like me, who didn’t use skin cream moisturizers and UV-A block out throughout their lives have deep face wrinkles. Are you with me – or still one of the lucky one’s!

I don’t mind so much that I have wrinkles, it’s just that they are getting deeper by the day making, me look old, tired and drawn. I exercise every day, drink water and watch my diet, and I’m certainly not overweight, yet I still look like a wrinkly old man at 63 years old.

It finally got to me, so I decided to investigate what I could do about it on the Internet. Being a reasonably logical type, I thought it would be easy to find a skin care cream solution. However, I was confronted by tens of thousands of websites all willing to relieve me of my hard earned money for a miraculous remedy. This became confusing, so I decided to learn the facts about face wrinkles.

I always thought the Internet was a time waster, however, I now realize it’s a great, simple way to find information that’s useful, if you get past all the rubbish first.

The simple facts are our skin degrades as we age because we lose the two main building blocks for skin health collagen and elastin. The reason these two proteins are so important is because they make up a large percentage of our bodies proteins, over 30%. Therefore, it makes sense that if your levels are degrading daily your skin will sag and wrinkle.

I figured the solution was to find a skin care cream that can increase our collagen and elastin levels. Recently, I happened to find a new skin cream that can do that. Now I’m using it religiously morning and night just like the label on the tube recommends.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since I started, and I’m pretty pleased with the results so far. My wrinkles haven’t changed noticeably yet, although the moisturizing has changed their definition somewhat. I don’t think there will be much wrinkle change for at least a couple of months. I have noticed my skin has improved considerably though. It’s not dry, itchy or flakey anymore; it looks and feels smoother than before.

I plan to keep using this skin cream for face wrinkles for at least 3 months to give it a good test. I’m not expecting miracles with regards to my wrinkles greatly reducing or disappearing I only want them to improve a little so I don’t look older than I am. After all a man over 60 without any wrinkles at all would look rather odd?

If your interested to find out more about the skin cream I’m now using, visit my website below.

The Secret Art of Healing Wrinkles Using Instant Wrinkle Removers

Posted under reducing wrinkles by admin on Thursday 25 February 2010

Nobody likes to have wrinkles on their skin. We feel young within and we do not like to be seen as aged. Instant wrinkle removers promise to hide the wrinkles overnight, but what took years to appear, will they go overnight?

Healing wrinkles naturally is the right way to go. In this article I shall give you some great useful information that will give you the fountain of youth. You shall know the science of naturally healing wrinkles, not just hiding those wrinkles just as promised by the so called “instant wrinkle removers”.

By healing, what I mean is a gradual reducing of wrinkles over time. Natural healing of wrinkles takes a few months, but the results are no less than wonderful.

Lets us look into the process of skin aging. This information shall be very useful in understanding the secret art of healing wrinkles naturally.

Process of Skin aging

Our skin looks firm, wrinkle free, soft, pliant and elastic due to the two proteins in our body called Collagen and Elastin. Now as we age, our body produces less and less of these two vital proteins.

That is the reason we start to show the signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin, age spots and dark uneven skin complexion. Now, the question is that if collagen deficiency is the reason for skin aging and wrinkles, then why not just add collagen to the skin by external means?

The Scam behind Collagen based “Instant wrinkle removers”

It might sound logical and that is what most skin care companies take an unfair advantage of. For healing wrinkles, these so called “instant wrinkle removers” add collagen as one of the ingredients in their skin care products.

But, the scientific reality is that collagen molecule is too big to penetrate the skin. It is rejected by the uppermost layer of our skin called Epidermis. So, what to say about the deeper layers!

So, this category of collagen instant wrinkle removers fail miserably on their claims of hiding wrinkles and healing wrinkles. Using them is a sheer waste of your hard earned money.

You can consult any dermatologist or any reputed medical care website to confirm the above facts.

Natural Substances that help in healing wrinkles

But there is no reason to lose hope as yet. I have found natural substances that help in stimulating our own body to produce more collagen and elastin. This is a sure shot and natural way of healing wrinkles permanently.

One of the natural substances is Cynergy TK and it comes from New Zealand. It is very high in keratin. Keratin is the protein found in our skin which plays a vital role in our skin’s health.

Cynergy TK contains keratin in its functional form. This makes it highly absorbable by our skin. Cynergy TK has shown many amazing results like-

·    Higher production of collagen and elastin in the body. This plays a positive role in healing wrinkles naturally.
·    Improvement in skin moisture retention and skin elasticity.
·    Regrowth of new skin cells!

You can thus, see that healing wrinkles requires that you use natural substances like these that work in a natural way in impoving the body’s own collagen producing mechanism.

That is exactly why I use these products myself rather than the so called instant wrinkle removers which make just empty promises. So, the key is not to get trapped in collagen based instant wrinkle removers but use those ones which have such natural ingredients. That is the secret art of regaining soft, young and supple skin.

Get Rid of Deep Forehead Wrinkles

Posted under reducing wrinkles by admin on Monday 22 February 2010

Wrinkles start to appear as we age and we get in to our 30s and 40s, this is due to collagen breakdown, the skin gets thinner and less elastic. The most affected parts of the body are the face, hands and chest. Forehead wrinkles are particularly a problem for most people.

Deep forehead wrinkles and wrinkles around the eyes are some of the most common and need special attention to erase them. As you might have heard there are many anti wrinkle treatments that you can use to get rid of wrinkles, but you need to evaluate which one is the best for you.

You can get anti aging treatments or anti wrinkle creams to reduce wrinkles. When a person have deep forehead wrinkles they usually look for anti aging treatments that are aggressive or can produce fast results.

Some of the most common treatments for deep wrinkles are chemical peels, botox, laser resurfacing, face lifts, micro dermabrasion and others.

To get rid of forehead wrinkles many people use botox because is a less invasive treatment and works effectively in reducing wrinkles, although the results are just temporary and a new treatment will be needed at some point.

Botox paralyzes the muscles of the skin, thus avoiding muscles from contracting and forming wrinkles. On the other hand a more aggressive treatment that works for people that want a radical change is face lifts, they require surgery intervention and have its risks, consult your doctor first.

Laser resurfacing is less invasive and can work, but you need to learn its advantages and disadvantages first. Collagen injection fillers are another option that works quickly and is less risky, but the effects are temporary also.

If you want a long term solution to really get rid of wrinkles and naturally improve your skin health, then is recommended to use daily a good anti wrinkle cream with natural ingredients that increase the production of collagen within the skin. For example CynergyTk increases collagen and elastin naturally.

Winning Tactics for Combating Eye Wrinkles

Posted under reducing wrinkles by admin on Friday 19 February 2010

Dealing with eye wrinkles can be frustrating.  The area around the eyes is very sensitive to chemicals and other harmful substances.  It gets damaged very easily.  If you have undereye wrinkles, then it has already been damaged somewhat.  So, the first step to reducing undereye wrinkles is to avoid ingredients that can increase that damage.

There are literally hundreds of different chemicals that cosmetic companies use frequently.  Most of them fall under the category of petrochemicals.  You can often identify them by looking for the prefix “petro.”

Some of these chemicals are known carcinogens.  If you use a carcinogen on your skin, free radicals will form within the skin’s cells.  Free radical damage is the major underlying cause of eye wrinkles.  In order to prevent further damage, you should avoid the following ingredients.  This is not a complete list, but the ones here are some of the most common.

  • Petrolatum
  • Mineral oil
  • Paraffin wax or liquid
  • Oxybenzone
  • Benzophenone
  • Ethanol
  • Methanol
  • Ethyl, methyl, isopropyl and other kinds of parabens

The most effective ingredients for repairing undereye wrinkles are nutrients.  Specifically, they are short chains of amino acids known as peptides, similar to, but smaller than proteins.  Peptides have been shown to stimulate the production of new cells and fibers, because that’s what makes up the cells, fibers and tissues all over the body.

The best cream for reducing eye wrinkles contains several different peptides, which provide most of the essential amino acids, the building blocks of collagen and elastin.  It also contains antioxidants, the body’s main defense against free radical damage.

There are some unique antioxidants that are particularly effective for repairing undereye wrinkles and improving circulation in the area, so that you don’t get bags or dark circles.  One of them is Chrysin, which is found in blue passion flower.

In some recent clinical studies, creams containing it were shown to reduce bags, wrinkles and dark circles in the majority of volunteers that participated.  The ingredients to look for are sold under the proprietary names of HALOXYL and EYELISS. In less than 28 days 62% of volunteers showed a significant reduction in eye wrinkles around and under the eyes.

The compounds are safe and all natural.  They’ve been used by Hollywood stars and other celebrities.  They are formulated in Europe and only found in the best gels

In addition to avoiding the bad ingredients mentioned above and using a gel containing the “good stuff”, try to drink more purified water and get plenty of sleep, especially if you have dark circles.  They are caused by a build-up of toxins in the fluids circulating just beneath the skin.

You don’t have to put up with undereye wrinkles.  If you take the right approach, your face will no longer give away your age.  How much is that worth to you?

Most of us would pay just about anything to prevent and/or repair eye wrinkles, but the best products are actually very affordable.
